Founded by Sir John Murray in 1884, the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) is one of the leading researchers into the aquatic environment. Using their findings, SAMS work to educate, communicate and promote their knowledge for public good. They aim to foster healthy and productive seas and oceans in order to support life and to better understand our planet.

SAMS findings into all aspects of marine systems are shared with society, policy makers and business. They conduct this vital work so that practices and regulations may be improved in order to support a thriving marine ecosystem that we can all take a benefit from with regards to climate change, marine conservations, ocean systems and blue economy.

Based in Oban, SAMS is now looking to recruit a new Head of Financial Services on an interim basis. This is a critical role within SAMS, supporting business decision making and performance management in order to enable a financially secure future. Working within the Directorate Team and Governance Committees, you will provide regular management accounts information as well as advice, guidance and areas for improvement. In addition to this, you will oversee excellent service delivery, quality management and provide support in the form of coaching and mentoring to the Financial Support Services team, comprising both finance and contract management activities.

The ideal candidate for this role will be experienced in financial management with a recognised accountancy qualification, as well as a confident individual who is able to offer guidance and advice within their team. You will be an excellent leader and able to naturally communicate with a variety stakeholders. The Head of Financial Services will also bring energy, enthusiasm and integrity whilst creating a positive and inclusive culture within the department.
